2012 Recipient of the
Foundation Appreciation Award[/caption] (Montgomery, Ala.) On behalf of the board of directors, Dr. Paulette Thompson presented the second annual Stegall Scholarship Foundation Appreciation Award to Mr. John Carson Bullard of Montgomery, Ala. during the 2012 Donor Appreciation Banquet on August 9. In presenting the award, Dr. Thompson said, “This recipient is unique in a singular way that sets him apart from the rest of us. He, although not clergy, has served the United Methodist Church at every level.” Under his direct leadership and around the dining room table at his home, he and his late wife, Mary Ellen, pulled others into the creation process to formally establish the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Foundation. Mr. Bullard has shown a lifelong commitment to using his time, talents and service to the glory of God. Bullard exemplifies what it means to be a United Methodist and has served at every level of the church. In his local church, First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, Ala., he participated and led Bible studies; was the chairman of both the trustees and administrative board; and served on the finance committee, council on ministries, and staff- parish relations committee. He has served the district through the board of trustees, nominating committee, and grounds committee. At the conference level he was an active board member of the UM Foundation, chaired the conference CFA , and serves as a delegate to the Alabama – West Florida Annual Conference. He has also participated at the general church level in numerous ways, including the General Council of Finance and Administration, and has attended several world Methodist conferences. Bullard is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke University in Civil Engineering. In accepting the award, Bullard was honored by the nearly 350 guests with a standing ovation.
