The Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Foundation annually presents a “Spirit of the Foundation” award to honor a donor(s) who has shown faithful commitment to the mission of the foundation. The 2021 recipients of this award are Faye and Roger Williams of
Montgomery, Ala.

Faye and Roger were born and reared in two small neighboring communities located 45 miles southeast of Raleigh, North Carolina. They first met at a Methodist youth fellowship sub-district meeting of which their two small Methodist Churches were members.

Roger graduated from Methodist College, now Methodist University, in Fayetteville, NC. Faye graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. They were married on August 19, 1962, recently celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary. God has blessed them with a daughter, Susan, and 3 grandchildren: Madeline, Carson, and Wyatt.

Just out of college, Faye embarked upon a career as an elementary school teacher. Roger began a career in pharmaceutical sales, spending his last 30 years with Abbott Laboratories. Together they moved to Raleigh, Kinston, and Wilmington in North Carolina; Chicago; Birmingham; and Atlanta. Wherever they have lived, they have not only joined a Methodist Church, but they have also participated in founding a new Sunday School class. In Montgomery, it was Roger and Faye who founded a new Sunday School class at Oak Grove senior living community.

Roger and Faye have been totally involved in the life of First United Methodist Church of Montgomery. They have been very active members of the Tower Sunday School Class, of which Roger has served as president. Roger has also served as chairman of the Music Committee and a faithful member of the Cathedral Choir. He has been a strong leader of the local Habitat For Humanity organization and on the board of the Children First Foundation.

Roger and Faye have not only been very generous supporters of our Seminary Scholarship Foundation, but as native North Carolinians, they have chosen on occasions to visit our students attending Duke Divinity School when they are back in the Durham area.

In light of all of the great support that Faye and Roger have shown for our seminary students, we are pleased to present to them our “Spirit of The Foundation Award.” We look forward to a time when we may make the official award presentation to them in person.
